Cape Renovation

Here are the before and after images from our Cape renovation.
We started in the fall of 2009 and finished in the Summer of 2010.
It's a pretty amazing transformation,enjoy!

BEFORE...
View from the water
Wait, is that a house in there?
Tiny deck on the side of the house.
We have big plans for the deck but are waiting for the big budget to match.

Progress
Termite damage
A tree growing through the side of the house
This the the hole the raccoons used to get in for the Winter.
Bye bye raccoons, we hope you enjoyed your stay while it lasted.
More progress...new windows and siding
Interior pictures....mid progress
Notice the lack of any insulation or sheetrock, very minimal.
Cedar shakes are going up
Ahhh so much better!
We chose timeless nautical lights for the exterior, hand made by local craftsmen.
They are brass and should age nicely in the salty air.

Living Room
The building inspectors made us put beams up in the living room and bedrooms.  They wouldn't have been our first choice but we didn't have a choice.  The beams you see are temporary.  We plan to either replace them with solid wood beams or box them in with finished wood.

AFTER
Ok so here are the after pictures.
Realize that these are early after pictures before any decorating has taken place.  This is the clean slate that I am going to work with this Summer.  The house wasn't done until mid-summer so we didn't have time, money or energy to start the decor.
The green boards we decided to re-purpose from the old ceiling.  The pale green color is an update on the original.  Some aspects we kept for nostalgia sake.  My husband's 100 year old grandmother took great pride in her beloved Cape Cod home.
We chose a pale grey color for all of the rooms except the living room which we kept white on top.
This is the one design piece I did have time to do.  Again for nostalgia sake, we kept Grandmother's old chandelier in the dining area.  I spray painted it white and added some navy blue shades.  She loved this chandelier and so do I.

We love our little Cape escape, is it Summer yet?

  1. HI! You guys did a great job with your reno! You'd hardly know it was the same house! I'd like a chandelier like that in my own house :)
